A lesson in perspective
Show the same moment, such as an election count, a summit or a launch, on channels from several countries. Ask what each one leads with, which words it uses and which pictures it chooses. The differences start the discussion.
Set up in a minute
- Open Skywall and pick a ready-made wall, or add the channels you want.
- Connect the classroom display by cable or AirPlay.
- Tap Use the TV and choose TV shows the channels: the wall fills the screen and your iPhone or iPad becomes the remote.
- Tap a screen to give it the sound.
Before you show live TV
- Live news isn't edited for the classroom and can show distressing events without warning. Preview the channels, as with any live TV.
- The streams are the broadcasters' own on YouTube, with their ads.
- Some broadcasters limit their streams to their own country.
- School networks sometimes block YouTube. Check with your IT team first.
Ideas for class
- Open the lesson with headlines from three countries.
- Follow a live event on its event wall, such as an election night.
- In language classes, use news in the language students are learning; see live news for language learners.
- In geography, match each channel to its country on a map.
Questions
Do students need accounts?
No. Skywall has no accounts and collects no personal data; saved walls sync only through the teacher's own iCloud.
Are the channels suitable for school?
They're broadcasters' live news streams, which can show distressing events. Preview what you show, as with any live TV.
