The short answer
- Two to four videos you can see: turn on Windowed Apps or Stage Manager and tile the windows.
- One small video over everything else: Picture in Picture.
- Several live channels, one with sound: an app built for it, like Skywall, which shows up to nine and lets you pick the one you hear.
The catch with the built-in options is sound: iPadOS lets one app at a time play video with sound, so a second video usually pauses or goes quiet when the first one starts talking.
Tile two or more windows (iPadOS 26 and 27)
Split View as people knew it was replaced in iPadOS 26 by window tiling, and Slide Over came back in iPadOS 26.1 with one window. To see several apps at once:
- Open Settings > Multitasking & Gestures.
- Choose Windowed Apps (resize and arrange windows) or Stage Manager (group windows into sets).
- Drag an app icon onto the left or right side of an open app to tile the two side by side. Windows can also be arranged in thirds or quarters.
- Open a different live stream in each window: for example the YouTube app in one, and a broadcaster's stream in Safari in another.
Stage Manager works on every iPad that runs iPadOS 26, from the iPad (8th generation) and iPad mini (5th generation) up to the iPad Pro.
Why only one video plays sound
Video apps on an iPad take the audio for themselves: when one starts playing sound, iPadOS interrupts the others, and most of them pause. In Safari, only a limited number of videos can play sound together, while muted videos keep playing.
In practice: you can watch two streams side by side if all but one are muted, but starting the sound in a second app usually stops or silences the first. How each app reacts varies, so try your own combination.
Picture in Picture: one floating video
Picture in Picture keeps one video playing in a small window over other apps. While a video plays, tap the Picture in Picture button, or go to the Home Screen if Start PiP Automatically is on. You can move, resize or hide the window.
In the YouTube app, Picture in Picture needs iOS 15 or later and the setting turned on in both iOS Settings (General > Picture in Picture) and the app's Playback settings; music content needs YouTube Premium. It is one window: a second video in another app takes over the sound.
Websites that show several streams
Sites such as multiview.world and ViewGrid put several YouTube live streams on one page. They work best on a Mac or PC; in Safari on an iPad the same rule applies, so only one tile plays sound.
Apps made for several live channels
| App | What it plays | At once | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Skywall | Broadcasters' official live streams on YouTube, from a ready catalog of channels in dozens of countries | Up to 9 on iPad (6 on iPhone), one with sound | One-time purchase |
| ViewGrid | Any YouTube, Twitch, Kick or Rumble link you add, plus presets such as a news wall | Up to 6 in the app | Free |
| Multi TV | Official YouTube news streams, mostly Turkish channels | Up to 25 | Free |
| Fukumado | Any website in split windows | 2 to 4 | Free, premium subscription |
| YouTube TV | Its US TV lineup, including cable news | 4 | Monthly subscription, US only |
Checked on October 26, 2026 on the US App Store. Skywall's difference is the catalog (no links to find) and one voice by design: tap a screen to hear it while the others keep playing in silence. It also puts the wall on a TV with the iPad as the remote; see how to watch several channels on your TV.
Questions
Can an iPad play two YouTube videos at the same time?
It can show two, but only one plays with sound: starting the sound in a second app usually pauses or mutes the first. Apps like Skywall keep several live streams playing and let you choose which one you hear.
Does Split View still exist on the iPad?
Not under that name. iPadOS 26 replaced it with window tiling (halves, thirds or quarters) with Windowed Apps or Stage Manager, and iPadOS 26.1 brought back Slide Over.
How many live channels can Skywall show on an iPad?
Up to nine at once, in layouts of 1, 2, 4, 6 or 9 screens, or one big screen with 3 or 5 smaller ones. One plays sound; tap another to switch.
